Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, Protoclassic period, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A lovely hand-built terracotta standing female "pretty lady" figure with a highly-burnished surface and faint orange-red pigmentation. She stands upon separated legs with delineated female genitalia, with a slight distended abdomen perhaps indicative of pregnancy. Her broad chest displays drooping breasts on either side of a hanging necklace, with four coffee-bean-shaped appliques below; attenuated arms and rounded shoulders flank either side of a thick neck. The classic visage boasts incised diamond eyes, circular earspools, a prominent nose, open mouth, and thin headband with several shallow notched grooves. A wonderful example from ancient Western Mexico! Comes with custom museum-quality stand. Size: 6" H (15.2 cm); 6.7" H (17 cm) on included custom stand.
