Roman Period, 1st-2nd century AD. A wooden uraeus cobra, rearing with flaring hood and sun-disc to top of head; the curving body bent backward and curved along the back of the hood; with yellow, black and red pigment. 16 grams, 10.5cm (4 1/4"). Property of a Sussex gentleman; formerly acquired from Ancient Art, London, UK.
