Description
Pre-Columbian, Mayan / Olmec Territories, Proto-Mayan period, ca. 500 to 0 BCE. A hand-built seated human figure made of a creamy orange-brown terracotta. The figure has a large belly, bent arms, rounded shoulders, conical legs, and a thick neck. Her bulbous head displays an expressive visage comprised of a projecting nose, drilled ovoid eyes, a toothy grin, and perky ears. An elaborate headdress arches across a tall brow with three arching adornments on the lateral and central portions. A wonderful pottery depiction from the earliest days of the Mayan empire!
