Notes: The present work depicts Russian Premier Nikita Khrushchev brandishing a woodcutter's ax in the French village of Moeurs. "Furious over the U-2 spy-plane incident, Khrushchev decided to boycott the Paris Summit Conference, 1960. [Instead] he visited the village of Moeurs, where his Minister of Defence, Rodion Malinovski, had been billeted in World War I". (www.lessingimages.com, image number 60-11-17/6A).
