**First Time At Auction**
Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lengthy and finely-detailed support carved from a single piece of beige-hued palm wood. Each end displays sinuous tendril-form terminals, each with a central perforation used to support anything from the legs of a chair, to a basket-carrying device, or even a handle for a coffin. The obverse side features a monkey, lizard, and a reclining woman, all integral with the support face itself, and the verso showcases a series of abstract animal-shaped designs in low-relief. Size: 16.125" L (41 cm).
