Description
Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early 20th century CE. A huge, hand-carved wooden stirrer with a delightful relief anthropomorphic face at the base of the paddle. A long, slightly curved handle rises from the top. The wood has a beautifully smoothed, dark surface. Made for preparing taro, the dominant starchy food source of the region. Size: 5.2" W x 45.85" H (13.2 cm x 116.5 cm); 47.9" H (121.7 cm) on included custom stand.
