Item Details
Description
**Originally Listed At $200**

Northern Europe, Denmark, Mesolithic to Neolithic period, ca. 3900 to 1700 BCE. A smooth, brown chert axe head, made only for ceremony, either for use in ritual or as a grave good. During the Danish Neolithic, hunters began to shift their lifestyle to agriculture; this required clearing and burning woodland and domesticating animals. As society began to stratify along economic lines, an item like this was a mark of status. Size: 1.25" L x 2.3" W x 7.2" H (3.2 cm x 5.8 cm x 18.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Jersey, USA collection, acquired over twenty years ago
