**First Time At Auction**

Oceania, Papua New Guinea, Sepik River region, ca. early 20th century CE. An anthropomorphic, figural slingshot, carved from a curved piece of wood, in the form of a standing pregnant woman. Her long, mask-like face is mirrored in the form of her distended lower belly and thrust-forward hips. Two notched branches above her head form the functional parts of the slingshot, while her legs serve as the handle. Size: 5.5" W x 15" H (14 cm x 38.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection; ex-Ron Perry collection; Ron Perry collected art and artifacts for more than 40 years in New Guinea and the South Pacific. He collaborated with Carolyn Leigh to write a book entitled, "Art Dealer in the Last Unknown: Ron Perry & New Guinea Art: the early years 1964-1972" (2011)
