Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero, Mezcala, ca. 400 to 100 BCE. An uncommon hand-carved and string-cut anthropomorphic figure from a pale mottled stone in pale hues of beige, pistachio, and cream. The figure is characteristically abstract and minimalistic, with the face comprised of drilled eyes, an unusual slanted and cone-shaped head, and a thin incised mouth. A drill hole rests in the center of the throat and delineated arms rest at the sides with biconically-drilled holes through each for suspension, though not separated from the body like later examples. Size: 1.25" L x 2.125" W x 4.75" H (3.2 cm x 5.4 cm x 12.1 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.
