Virginia Currency
Very Rare May 3, 1779 Virginia Three Dollars Lowest Denomination and Unpriced In Any Grade In Newman
Treasury of Virginia. May 3, 1779. Three Dollars. Thin Laid Paper Rarity. Very Fine.
Fr. VA-164. This somewhat “regular” looking note is actually a great rarity, as listed in both the Friedberg and Newman reference books. Newman lists value with “dashes” in all grades, and it is simply stated as “Very Rare” by Friedberg. This note is printed on thin laid period paper. It is very well centered on the printed face side and the reverse is blank. Signatures include; James Wray and Thomas Everard. There is conservation including some small scattered paper repairs to the upper corners, a deft sealed centerfold and a few edge splits. Its blank reverse side has signs of prior mount hinges. The blank reverse is free of any typical notations. The longtime collector specially noted how rare this Thin Paper note is with; “it took over 30 years to locate this denomination!” A check of your own collection will confirm your need to acquire this Revolutionary War period Virginia paper money rarity.
