Description
South Carolina Currency
March 6, 1776 South Carolina Red & Black Typeset Note with Hebrew Text Typeset from Francis Salvador's Press
South Carolina, March 6, 1776 Resolve, Two Pounds Five Shillings, Red and Black Print, Typeset printed with Two Hebrew Text letters from Francis Salvador's Press, PMG graded Fine-12
Fr. SC-123. A rare major type and missing in most collections with the readable signatures of J. Ward and N. Russell present. This "1776" dated note was printed in the very print shop that had belonged to Francis Salvador (1747 - 1 August 1776), the historic Jewish American Revolutionary War Patriot who was killed earlier that same year while on a secret mission ordered by General George Washington to attempt to enlist the native American Indians to the Patriot side. A historic 1776 Revolutionary War South Carolina note of significant rarity. Only 10,000 notes were printed in its smaller size, colorful red and black typeset print format fully readable. This Uniface printed note is well centered with a whole and complete appearance with the outer border designs present. Its PMG holder states; repaired. This historic South Carolina issue also has two Hebrew text letters located within the upper typeset design and is uniface, having a blank reverse. The two Hebrew text letters serve as both a decorative and anti-counterfeiting devices.
