Description
A beautiful Egyptian faience plaque depicting the Apis Bull, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, wearing solar disk, horns and uraeus, a lotus flower tied around its neck, papyrus stalks behind. Extremely well-preserved with brilliant blue glaze and black spots on the bull; three holes along the upper edge for suspension or to tie the piece to fabric. 46 x 36 x 3 mm. Cf. Sir William Flinders Petrie, Amulets, type 207. Ex New York City private collection acquired from Parke-Bernet Galleries June 19, 1968, Lot 32.
