Europe, Spain, ca. 19th century CE. A pair of hand-thrown glazed terracotta bowls. One bowl, dark orange in color, has a flat base, sloping sides, a rounded rim, and a deep bowl cavity with an applied central star-shaped design and repeating sets of three curvilinear designs. The second bowl, caramel in color, has a flat base, rolling sides, a round rim with a protruding lip, a substantial bowl cavity, and a set of five applied repeating leaf-shaped designs enclosed by a curvilinear zigzag pattern. The glaze on both bowls is heavy and thick and does not cover the exterior of the bowl beyond the rim in most places. Size of smaller bowl: 10.75" W x 4" H (27.3 cm x 10.2 cm); size of larger bowl: 12.5" W x 4.75" H (31.8 cm x 12.1 cm).

Side of large bowl repaired. Surface wear commensurate with age, losses to glaze and applied details, with minor losses to rims and bases for both vessels.
