Description
A very attractive map in the Tallis tradition with plenty of settlement and topography detail. Two maps within one decorative border. The map of the Falklands is surrounded by finely rendered engravings of penguins, sea birds, and Jason Island with anchored tall ships. The map of Patagonia focuses on the shoreline, with less interior detail. The two vignettes are of Christmas Sound in Tierra del Fuego with clippers and a smaller vignette of Fugeans in a boat. Illustrations by H. Winkles and engraved by W. Lacey.
John Tallis (1817-1876) was an English cartographic publisher. His company, John Tallis and Company, published views, maps and atlases in London from roughly 1838 to 1851.
