Description
Dezauche's edition of de l'Isle's superb Americas map, one of the most popular Western Hemisphere maps of the the 18th century, features a small Brazil separated from the "Pays des Amazones," and a recently independent United States extending to the Mississippi. There is excellent topographical detail up to but not including the Pacific Northwest, which is largely devoid of interior detail. A small inset map shows the emerging coastline of Alaska, reflecting the discoveries of Captain Cook. The map features two decorative cartouches: a smaller one with a note on the map's projection, and the lovely wreath- and ribbon-laden title cartouche.
