Description

Title/Content of Map: 'L'Amérique Septentrionale' The map was published during the American War of Independence, predating the Louisiana Purchase. Louisiana territory west of the Mississippi appears to be shown as French, while Canada and much of the territory east of the Mississippi including Florida and the Midwest appears to be shown as British. The eastern seaboard of what is now the United States north of Florida is shown as a politically separate entity, presumably the incipient United States.
