Item Details
Description
The lot features a wonderful original 1947 Studebaker Commander/Champion Two-Door Starlight Coupe. The piece shows an older complete restoration including paint and is in good condition. The vehicle runs, drives, and stops as it should. Complete Frame up restoration with less than 1000 miles on the rebuilt engine. The vehicle shows just under 71,000 original miles and is in all original restored condition, showing the original factory motor, original trim pieces, glass, wheels and tires, upholstery. The Studebaker Commander/Champion was produced by the Studebaker Corporation of South Bend, Indiana and was first released in 1939. For its size the Studebaker was one of the lightest cars of its ear with the chief engineers adhering to the key principle, “weight is the enemy”. The car was designed by Raymond Loewry and was one of the most desired coupes of its day due to its durable engine and excellent stylings. This is the coveted first year of production of the third-generation design and the first new cars after World War II. This was the first example that showed the new four-piece rear window, flat front fenders, along with back light illumination for gauges and automatic courtesy lights. The piece shows a 169.9 cubic inch (2.8 Liter) I6 Flathead engine that produced 102 hp in 1947 followed up by a 3-Speed manual column shifter with a one-barrel carburetor. The rear window has been referred to as the wraparound “greenhouse” window that was only offered on the two door coupes in 1947-1951 with this 1947 2-Door Coupe rear window being a only offered as a special factory order option. The vehicle runs and drives along with having good brakes. This has a brand new 6 Volt battery and a fresh engine build. The car shows good overall condition and displays wonderfully. There are a few chips in the paint. Truly a rare original restoration Champion in good show quality ready to drive home. This comes with an original factory speedometer gauge, various manuals, parts catalog, car cover, fine interior, and other various pieces. The car shows some slight chips. Provenance: From a long time, Northwestern Montana Ex. Estate.
