Autograph letter signed by Richard Varick (1753 - 1831) as mayor of New York City. August 17, 1790. 1 leaf, 12.5" x 7.75". Three horizontal creases, a few closed tears at margins, mild toning. Good. ********************************** The present is a signed testimony by Varick concerning "where Constable James Reed took and held Elizabeth Gassner." Varick was a member of the Federalist party and a well-known Revolutionary figure, having served as chief aide to Benedict Arnold during Arnold's treason. Varick was elected as the 45th mayor of New York City.
