James Atkinson was an 18th-century English Elder and expert on navigation. His only known work is “Epitome of the art of Navigation” – a work that incorporates mathematics and geometry lessons into gaining understanding of world navigation. It teaches on line drawing, arc measuring, determining distance based on given and ungiven data, finding the diameter and radius of a circle and how it relates to navigation, figuring how much cargo a ship can carry based on weight, and much more.
This 1778 edition features folding engravings depicting geometric problems and solutions as well as rectification processes.
