**Originally Listed At $300**

Central Asia, Nepal, ca. 19th century CE. Wonderfully expressive mask representing a monkey / Hanuman - the celestial monkey god. Carved from a single piece of hardwood, then painted in deep red and black with elongated face, rounded eyes and slit mouth. Masks such as these were worn by shamans during rituals in order to protect the village, heal disease and practice exorcism. Custom stand. Size: 7.5" W x 14" H (19 cm x 35.6 cm), not including stand.

Provenance: private Colorado collection acquired in Bangkok, Thailand
