Description
Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Cornwall, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid pitcher with footed base ad short, narrow collar accented with a tooled band, the shoulder decorated with a brushed foliate motif. Brushed cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. A highly unusual form for this period in American stoneware production, featuring an appealing, early shape. A filled 2 1/8" flake to rim/spout, tapering to a 1 1/4" chip on interior. A filled 1 1/4" chip to interior of rim. A minor filled chip on top of rim. Heavy chipping to base, which has been filled. Some minor in-the-firing flaws to surface, typical of pieces of this age and origin.
