Description
Very Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Frog Pitcher with Monkey Handle and Original Painted Surface, attributed to Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, molded in the form of a standing frog atop a tree stump with relief oak branches and acorns, the frog's mouth forming the pitcher's spout. Pitcher's handle in the form of a monkey grasping a twig. Surface covered in a salt glaze over light clay ground. Wonderful, original paint to frog and monkey, the frog's body painted dark-green with a lighter-green border, along with black accents to eyes and claws, and the monkey painted solid black. Outstanding condition with the following minor flaws. A few minor spout chips. Two shallow, in-the-firing chips to monkey. A tiny post-firing base chip and a tiny in-the-firing base chip. A 1 1/8" flake to underside at edge. H 13 5/8".
