Lovecraft's rare first book of fiction, published in an edition of 300 copies. Currey's priority 'C1', one of approximately 50 sets of unbound sheets distributed by Arkham House, circa 1952. A further 100 copies were bound by Arkham House and sold in 1961. The copyright cancel in State 'a' with titles in bold. Accompanied by a typed letter from publisher August Derleth, dated July 12, 1962, explaining the history of the printing and distribution of this title. Also, a postcard from Derleth dated 8 days later offering the unbound sheets (one of about 6 sets still remaining in Arkham House inventory) for $15.00 and the bound issue for $17.50. The original mailing envelope for the sheets is also present. All correspondence addressed to Daryl Litchfield. Currey C1a.; Joshi I.A.5.
