Description
Assorted official White House menus from June 1962. Included are two luncheon menus, dated June 5, 1962, on cardstock with beveled gold edges; one luncheon menu dated June 9, 1962, on gold edged heavy weight cream paper; two luncheon menus dated June 12, 1962, and one luncheon menu dated June 18, 1962, on cardstock with beveled gold edges. Menus are approximately 7.5 x 5" and all have the Presidential Seal stamped in gold on the front and detail the cuisine and wine pairing that was served during each meal. Some menus exhibit areas of smearing or smudging from use.
On June 5, 1962, President Kennedy held a Luncheon in honor of Archbishop Makarios, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
On June 9, 1962, The President had a Luncheon for Paul Henri Spaak, Foreign Affairs Minister of Belgium.
On June 12, 1962, The President hosted a luncheon in honor of President Roberto Chiari of Panama.
On June 18, 1962, President Kennedy met and hosted a luncheon for the Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies.
These items come directly from the Hirschy family. Lieutenant Hirschy was Supply and Logistics Officer for the Military Aides to the President and Officer-in-Charge of the Navy Mess in the White House during both the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. His duties also included taking care of the President’s needs on overseas trips, aboard the presidential yachts and at Camp David. Lt. Hirschy served in the White House from May 1, 1961 through May 31, 1965.
