Description
Egypt, probably pre-Dynastic/Naqada I period, ca. 4400 to 3000 BCE. An incredible disc-shaped mace head made of a beautiful black and white breccia with a drilled center hole and a smooth surface; the piece has a very pleasing weight in the hand and was likely mounted on perishable material in its original use. Items shaped like this one have been found in Naqada I (4400 to 3500 BCE) tombs of both males and females; they were later replaced by more piriform mace heads. They may be an indication of the authority of the buried person, as they were in later times, but little is known about this early period. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2.3" W x 2" H (5.8 cm x 5.1 cm); height on stand: 5.65" (14.4 cm)
