Description
A rare Jin Dynasty rose- purple glaze pitcher. It has a curved-ribbon like handle and short spout, with an almost square opening. These are common features of pitchers of Northern Song and Jin period. The smooth and intense purplish red (rose-purple) glaze is exceptionally beautiful and highly valued by collectors throughout the history. Even more beautiful is the light blue, so-called “sky blue”, glaze of the inner wall. This glaze contains numerous white suspended materials, which, under magnifying glass, look like streaks/patches of fog. This is an important characteristic of Song-Jin Jun ware glaze. The outer base has a ring-foot and a conical downward protrusion at the center, this feature is unique for the base of porcelain of Jin and Yuan period. (Dr. Robert I-San Lin Collection 2451, brought to California in 1960s). 5.75"x5.25"
