Description
An elegantly shaped Song Dynasty vase. It has a graceful surface contour of an elongated ‘yu hu chwen ping” vase of Northern Song. Its body is made of fine clay. The greenish-brown and smooth glaze is rare during that period; it drains thin around the mouth rim and protruding ridges to reveal a lighter colored clay body, but accumulating thick around concave corners to assume a greenish-grey color, these are common features of Song glaze. The base has an upward concave shape, also a common feature of Song porcelain. The wall is decorated with delicately incised peony flowers, which was the primary technique of decorating porcelain before polychrome enamel era. (Dr. Robert I-San Lin Collection 1938, brought to California in 1960s). 5"x5"
