AMERICAN LINEN PLAIN-WEAVE HAND TOWEL / SHOW TOWEL, with cotton cross-stitch, running-stitch and darning-stitch embroidery and fringe, rectangular, comprising three panels, one panel hemmed on each edge, the second panel hemmed on each side, and attached to top panel by insertion and to bottom panel by flat-fell seam, third panel hemmed at the side edges, and the top and bottom having fringe and whip stitched; design features roosters on 5" long darned panel, base with double tulips, and plain panel with stylized trees at bottom corners with initials "L M" centered across bottom. Likely Pennsylvania. First half 19th century. 47" x 13" OA.
Very good condition overall with some uneven toning to lower third.
