PENNSYLVANIA DATED LINEN PLAIN-WEAVE HAND TOWEL / SHOW TOWEL, with cotton and silk cross-stitch and herringbone-stitch embroidery, fringe and linen tabs, rectangular, single linen panel, narrow hemmed to side edges with a top flap turned over with self-fringe, self-fringe at bottom, linen hanging tabs to top corners; design featuring a central urn with carnations, paired motifs of stars, flowers, squared hearts, zig-zag or herringbone bands to secure top flap; embroidered "Caterina Ginder 1827". Possibly Carbon Co., Pennsylvania. Dated 1827. 45 1/2" x 17 1/2" OA.
Very good condition overall with loss to uppermost stitching, overall even toning, and bleeding of black dye in date.
Provenance: From the Allentown Art Museum to benefit future acquisitions for the Museum's textile collection.
Catalogue Note: A Catherine Ginder was born in Carbon Co., Pennsylvania in 1815 and married James McDaniel circa 1840.

Condition

Very good condition overall with loss to uppermost stitching, overall even toning, and bleeding of black dye in date.
