Nicolaus Sauerbrey's superbly detailed Northwest Passage map from Euler's Atlas is a reduced version of the landmark de l'Isle/Buach map encompassing continental North America, the northern Pacific, and east and central Asia. Commissioned by the Prussian Academy of Science, the map shows the routes of Russian voyages of discovery in 1723, 1732, and 1741, de Frondat's voyage of 1709, and Spanish trans-Pacific galleons. Also featured prominently is De Fonte's fictitious "Sea or Bay of the West" in northwestern North America and the large Lac De Valasco in what is now Alaska. Surmounting the map are a note on the map's coordinates and projection (in French), a decorative title cartouche topped by the Prussian eagle, a mileage scale, and images of Arctic and Louisiana natives.
