Hand colored, copperplate engraved. French edition. Virgina to Carolna coast, Gerogia up to Florida are the main focla points of the map. The competing French and English interests are represented by the coat of arms of each shown in the area of dominance. Map shows two mystical lakes in the exterior. Rivers and many native tribes named. A beautiful large cartouche shows Native Americans. A miles scale is held up by two cherubs and ships sail the seas.

Johannes Jansson /Jan Janssonius (1588-1664) was a Dutch cartographer and publisher active in the 17th century who lived and worked in Amsterdam.
