Description
Florida (insets of Pensacola, Tallahassee and Harbour of St. Augustine) S. Augustus Mitchell, 1848. Nice example of an early edition of Mitchell's map of Florida, with insets of Pensacola, Tallahassee and the Harbour of St. Augustine, from Mitchell's New Universal Atlas. Hand colored by counties, only a few of which are in the southern part of Florida, including Dade, Monroe, St. Luci, Hillsboro, Orange, Marion & Benton. A number of roads are shown connecting Ft. Thomson, Ft. Denaud, Ft. Keais, Ft. Swearingen, Ft. Lloyd, Ft. Pierce, Ft. Jupiter, Ft. Taylor, Ft. Basinger, Ft. Frazier, Ft. Dulaney, Ft. Lane, Ft. Christmas, etc. A number of dates depict key battles, along with crossed swords to show the locations. Near Miami, Key Biscayne, Bear Cut, Cape Florida, Ft. Dallas and Rio Ratones are shown. Several early railroads are shown in the North. Nice print with great color. Tiny light spot in image. Light foxing in margin. 11.75 x 14.5 inches.
