Description
1846 Mitchell Map of Texas from 1851 atlas. This map features an early rendering of the final borders of the new State of Texas. This is from the series that was the first to name Dallas. Indian tribes, forts, wagon roads, mines and more are noted. The Alamo is located as Ft. Alamo. County development has extended to about 99° N. latitude at Gonzales and Gollard counties. The map is dated 1846, but was published in Cowperthwait’s 1851 school geography. 8 x 10.5 inches.
Samuel Augustus Mitchell (1790-1860) was an American geographer born in Connecticut. He worked as an educator before turning to publishing geography textbooks and maps.
