Details: 2Pcs This lot consists of a Knights of Pythias ceremonial kepi. This lot is from the estate of a well-known and well-respected lifetime Civil War collector in Upstate New York. Worth Auctions will feature scores of antique weapons, paintings, and unusual items.

The sides of the Patriarchs Militant Surgeons cap are black with purple velvet and bullion brocade trim while the top disc is bright red. Front insignia has gold bullion Officers wreath with black velvet field and a crown device of bullion and red thread. Top has bullion lettering which reads "PM" and "SURGEON 4TH REGT. NEW YORK". The buttons on either side of the visor show the full seal comprised of a shepherds crook crossed with a sword and the triple links of Odd Fellowship connecting the two at the bottom and read "PATRIARCHS MILITANT I.O.O.F." A golden hat knot cord is tied to the buttons. The 1.25" visor is lacquered. Patterned lining. Measurements are 6" W x 7" L x 3.5" H. Front rise is 1.75". Buttons measure 15mm diameter. Measurements are approximate.

The sides of the Knights of Pythias cap are black while the top disc is bright blue. The front is adorned with a silver bullion officers wreath and regiment number "12" and the top has the designation "WASH. " in silver bullion. A Knights of Pythias insignia also adorns the top of the cap, diamond shaped with silver bullion trim, red velvet field and Calla Lily device. The buttons on either side of the visor also show Calla Lilies and read "UNIFORM RANK K OF P". A silver hat knot cord is tied to the buttons. The 1" visor is lacquered. Orange satin lining bears a makers mark in the form of a shield with "P" chief. The shield reads "THE PETTIBONE SOCIETY MFG CO. MILITARY & BAND GOODS 268 & 270 MAIN ST. CIN. O." Measurements are 6.5" W x 7.5" L x 3.5" H. Front rise is 1.75". Buttons measure 15mm diameter. Measurements are approximate.

Condition / Notes: These items show a typical range of period wear, age and handling which may include patina, abrasions, rust, loose stitches, cracks or flakes on leather, and soiling. The Knight cap has small holes on the top disc, chips and cracks to interior sweatband, and loose stitching on lining. The exterior of the Surgeons cap displays very well with no nips in the cloth and substantial patina on the bullion parts. Please see photos.
