Description
PATTERN 1856 ENFIELD SWORD BAYONET
British Pattern 1856 sword bayonet, 22 3/4" blade, 28" overall, designed for use with the Pattern 1856 Enfield "2-Band" short rifle. The "yataghan"-style blade is unmarked, and bears a fine dark patina overall, with some pitting but no active rust. The grips are of pressed leather, and the metal pommel is marked "227". The metal furniture of the handle is well oxidized with some pitting, and the grips show some warping, wear, and dings, else very good. The "2-Band" Enfield and its accompanying bayonet were used by both Federal and Confederate troops throughout the Civil War, and enjoyed a fair degree of popularity.
