Description
An Egyptian alabaster cosmetic vessel, Middle Kingdom, c. 2061 - 1690 BC, commonly used for kohl, the body of inverted piriform shape with slightly flared disk base, the mouth narrow with low vertical rim; the bore is vertical and about 3/4 depth. H: 1 1/2 in (3.8cm). Light deposits. Cf. J. Vandier d'Abbadie, Catalogue des Objets de Toilette Egyptiens, (Paris, 1972), p. 111, no. 442 for the type in the same material; Ex North Carolina private collection.
