Description

12th Dynasty, Ca. 1887 - 1750 BC.
A set of two Egyptian stone vessels with large caranated bodies and tapering necks which connected to a flat, short everted rim. Egyptian vases crafted from stones, like alabaster or calcite, epitomized luxury and beauty for the culture. These vessels were meticulously carved and polished to perfection, serving as containers for precious oils, perfumes, and cosmetics. For similar see: MET Museum Accession Number: 2014.619.1–.5.

Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
