Manuscript letter signed by Miguel Constanzo. 35 lines, in ink, on 4-page conjugate sheet. Constanzo relays to the Viceroy of New Spain, Xavier Lizana y Beaumont, a communication of Felix Calleja relative to the cavalry corps of the Northern provinces of Nuevo Leon and Nuevo Santander (today Tamapulipas, Nuevo Leon and the southern part of Texas). Constanzo notes that the soldiers need 57 shotguns and 352 pistols, and he adds "your majesty surely knows [how] convenient it is to have those troops armed". 21.3x15.3 cm (8½x6"). 1810.
Manuscript payment sheet to Miguel Costanzo, headed "Ajuste de un mes de paga al teniente coronel de ingenieros en segundo Miguel Constanzo," itemizing monies due to him, authorized by the "Contaduria general del Ejercito y Real Hacienda de Mexico." 29.8x19.3 cm (11¾x7¾"). 1794.
Significant letter from Miguel Costanzo (also spelled Costansó or Constançó),, the Catalonian engineer, cartographer and cosmographer who, while serving with the expedition of exploration of Alta California led by Gaspar de Portolá and JunÃpero Serra, became the first European to map San Francisco Bay.
