October 4, 1780-Dated Revolutionary War, Partly-Printed Document, Massachusetts Militia Appointment, 1 page, measuring 13.25” x 13.5”, on period laid paper, at Boston, Very Fine.
The Revolutionary War Date, official military Appointment of John Bacon to serve as Captain of the 3rd Regiment of Massachusetts Militia of Berkshire County. Signed in the left margin by many notables including: “JOHN AVERY,” “JEREMIAH POWELL,” “J. CUSHING,” “JABEZ FISHER,” “MOSES GILL,” “SAMUEL NILES,” “S. FULLER,” “JONATHAN PITTS,” “WILLIAM WHITING,” “JOSEPH DORR,” “J. DONELSON,” “AARON” WOOD,” “E. BROOKS,” “HENRY GARDNER,” “B. AUSTIN,” “STEPHEN CHOATE,” and several others. The official Embossed “Minuteman” Design Paper and Wax Seal of Massachusetts has a nice sharp and clear impression at the upper left. Some scattered tone, edge chipping, somewhat fragile on thin paper with fold splits with some reinforcements with archival tape on the blank verso, overall well printed and signed, having choice eye appeal for display.
