6th Massachusetts Regiment Revolutionary War Button also known as the "Minutemen" Unit was called up in April 1775
c. 1775, Revolutionary War Period, 6th Massachusetts Regiment Button, a.k.a. the "Minutemen," 14 mm, Pewter, Troiani/Kochan AM6.f, with Original Shank, Good.
One of the first units to be called up in April 1775, following the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and served as part of the Continental Army throughout the war, led by Colonel William Prescott. This Button was reported by our consignor to have been properly dug from the site of the historic Battle of Saratoga. Covered in a white encrustation from having been in the ground for the past 200+ years. The central "VI" is very legible, the two crossed swords are still visible, and much of the MASS can be seen at top. This small size 14 mm button is listed as Troiani/Kochan AM6.f and measures 14 mm across. Amazingly, its original shank is still intact. A historic find from the Revolutionary War.
The 6th Massachusetts Regiment, also known as the "Minutemen," was a unit of the Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolutionary War. They were one of the first units to be called up in April 1775, following the Battles of Lexington and Concord, and served as part of the Continental Army throughout the war.
The regiment saw action at several key battles, including the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Battle of Saratoga, and the Battle of Yorktown. They were mustered out of service in 1783, following the end of the war. The regiment was composed primarily of men from the Massachusetts Bay colony, and was led by Colonel William Prescott.
