Two typed letters to Frances Stevenson from the solicitors who were dealing with the adoption of her daughter Jennifer. In the first one the solicitor John Morris plans to make an appointment to see the Official Solicitor immediately and persuade him that a domiciliary visit is unnecessary", one page, mailing folds, 4to , 283 Salisbury Court, Fleet Street, 17 May 1938. In the second letter the solicitor informs Frances that "I attended before the judge to-day and obtained the Adoption Order, without any difficulty. The only question that was raised was as to whether he was entitled to dispense with references, and he eventually decided that he was. The procedure now is that we draw up the order and it is lodged with the Registrar General of Births. It there remains a secret documents. Jennifer's entry in the ordinary Register of Births will be marked with the word "Adopted", and no one, in future, will either be able to see the original, or to obtain a copy of the Certificate. Her birth will be registered anew in what is termed "The Adoption Register", which will merely describe you as the Adopter and give the date and place of her birth", one page, mailing folds, 4to, 283 Salisbury Court, Fleet Street, 17 May 1938. Also included are: a hand drawn horoscope of Jennifer, with her true birth date (October 4th, 1929); a photocopy of a Trust Instrument from Frances Stevenson to her sister Muriel Stevenson and to John Ernest Morris, solicitor, regarding a property known as Ingleton, Sandy Lane, Cobham, with provision for an income to Jennifer Stevenson, 3 March 1931 (4)
