1800s Cotton Sales in New Orleans, Boston, & France: 2 Superb Letters
Two letters from the first half of the 1800s relating to the sale and purchase of cotton in the United States. The edges of the letter have been clipped, with some loss of text. Both have flattened mail folds with some loss from opened wax seals. Light toning and foxing throughout both. Overall very good.
The first, dated February 28, 1823, Havre, France, is from Du Roveray, d'Ivernois & Co. to Enoch Silsby in Boston, concerning a received shipment of cotton "in general superior quality" and providing quoted prices for various goods.
The second, dated October 27, 1849, New Orleans, is from E. R. Davis to John Aiken Esq., providing a quote for cotton prices given "increased demand."
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
