In disagreement with Napoleon, he left France in 1804 and did not return until 1814. On Napoleon's return, he took refuge in Ghent and did not return to Paris until after Waterloo.Letter signed "Louis, Stanislas, Xavier", as Count of Provence to s.l.n.d. approx. 1 p. in folio. He sends his correspondent this document, constituting a memorandum which is common to him with his brother the Count of Artois (Charles X) its purpose is to obtain from the King (Louis XVI) an order which regulates the ranks and military ranks of the two companies of our Gate Guards, The principles we invoke; the custom of the Royal Houses, and the infinite confidence that we have in the kindness and tenderness of the King our brother, do not allow us to doubt that our request will be favorably received.
