AUSTRIA, 1865-1922
A patinated and gilt bronze figural inkwell of a nude woman by Vienna sculptor Carl Kauba. The work depicts an Orientalist woman lying on a textile covered lounge holding a kitten. She lays covered by a gilt bronze molded shawl with highly detailed floral pattern in relief. The shawl lifts to reveal the woman sensually modeled adorned with arabesque jewelry. The flower pot to her side opens to reveal an inkwell. The work is signed "C. Kauba" with punched numerals and other illegible mark.
Provenance: Purchased from Bronz' Art, New York, January 5th, 1984.
