1824 George Washington & General LaFayette Liverpool Creamware Commemorative Pitcher “La Fayette’s US Visit”
1824-Dated Return Visit Period Commemorative Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher with George Washington and General La Fayette Transfers, Choice Near Mint.
This fully original 1824-Dated, Commemorative Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher measures 6.25” tall x 4” at its base, produced by Hall & Son. There is only slight friction of wear to the very base, the transfers and original fired gloss appear superb. This is a rare example produced for the American market during the famous 1824 return of the Marquis de Lafayette, now a French General to the United States per the invitation of Congress. It was the most exciting event of that year and all of America celebrated their returning hero of the Revolutionary War and dear close friend to George Washington. One transfer has a large portrait of La Fayette with the bottom reading “THE NATIONS GUEST”. The opposite side displays George Washington with “HIS COUNTRYS FATHER”. A third transfer, located under the spout displays a Heraldic American Eagle with 14 Stars above, with the legends “REPUBLICANS ARE NOT Always UNGRATEFUL”. Black trim at the top rim, below are legends reading, “IN COMMEMORATION OF THE VISIT, OF GEN.L LA FAYETTE, TO THE U.S. OF AMERICA, IN THE YEAR 1824”.
