Helper rose to fame following the publication of his anti-slavery work "The Impending Crisis" which was banned in many southern states. Following the Civil War and a brief government career in South America, Helper published the present work proposing the expulsion or elimination of all non-white races. Nojoque has been described as "the most virulent racist diatribe ever published in the United States." (George M. Fredrickson, The Arrogance of Race, p. 46, 1988).
Condition
Wear and soiling to cloth with rubbing to extremities, minor corner bumps, light fraying to cloth at edges, area of discoloration at bottom of front board; front hinge starting, scattered light foxing, owner's signature on front endpaper, spotting to page block; about very good.
