Description
Simon B. Buckner (1823-1914) Politician, CSA General. Buckner fought in the United States Army in the Mexican–American War. He later fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he served as the 30th governor of Kentucky. 8” x 10” autograph letter signed,four-pages (front and back), Fort Atkinson, December 21, 1851, to Col. William Hickey. “…The President urges again upon the attention of Congress the necessity of an increase of the Army. If new requirements, of any are – Cavalry or Infantry…I am desirous of obtaining a commission in one, of as high a grade as my past service may appear to entitle me to…” With an initialed postscript, written vertically on the first page: “…Please direct via Independence. Mo. I would be pleased if you would send me the President’s Message and accompanying Documents…S.B.B.”
