Description

Authentic Federally inspected model 1851 Foot Officer sword with original scabbard manufactured by Ames Blade is marked "AMES MFG CO CHICOPEE MASS 1851" on reverse, "U.S./R.P.B". Blade is etched over 2/3 of length with various military & patriotic motifs. Gilded brass hilt. Wire wrapped sharkskin grip. Gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a medium to dark gray mottled patina & has been sharpened. Approx. 35% gilding remains on the hilt. Grip & wire are complete though grip is slightly open at the seem. Approx. 20% gilding remains on the scabbard mounts. Scabbard also marked "AMES MFG.CO/CHICOPPEE/MASS". Lower leather on scabbard has some worn area. Measurements are 30 1/4" blade and 37 3/4" sword in scabbard. This is a fine and rare sword for the collector of Civil War and especially Ames swords.
