This Civil War era Ames Manufacturing Company Model 1850 Foot Officer's sword is a remarkable piece of history. Manufactured by Ames Mfg. Co in Chicopee, Massachusetts, the blade and scabbard bear the distinctive stamp of the company. The steel blade is etched with patriotic motifs such as the "US" insignia and scrolling foliate designs, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. The brass half basket guard features intricate openwork with oak leaf scrolls and acanthus leaves, adding to its aesthetic appeal. The shagreen leather wrap with twisted brass wire provides a comfortable and secure grip. The original leather scabbard, although missing half, still retains its brass mountings and two rings.
