Description
American Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Hall Chair, mid-19th century, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, the pierced and carved back with scrolling vines and floral sprays, the shaped plank seat with a floral-carved front apron, raised on floral-carved cabriole legs, h. 46", w. 21", d. 18".
Condition
In overall very good condition. The legs are all tight at the joints and the piece structurally sound. There are a few normal small chips to the edges of carved surfaces, notably a flake to the edge of a rose petal, and chips to the tips of a couple leaves. The lower edge on the reverse side of the chairback exhibits a couple veneer losses, one about 5/8" by 1-1/4" and one about 3/4" by 1". There are also two dowels through the lower back securing the back to each leg. Casters are brass replacements.
